Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyah in Kuwait Receives its Restored Rare Books from the BA

In a celebration held at the BA, on Tuesday17 June 2008, Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyah (House of Islamic Antiquities) in Kuwait received its collection of rare books after being restored at the BA Manuscript Center Restoration Laboratory. Dr. Youssef Zeidan, Director, Manuscript Center; Mr. Abdurrahman Al-Ajmi, Head of Public Relations Department, Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyah; and Amal Al-Hazza, Director of Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyah Library, attended the Ceremony.
Dr. Zeidan stated that the restoration of 102 rare books during the past six months have been carried out by a group of experts at the Restoration Laboratory through a series of technical steps. These steps included chemical treatment, fumigation and renovation of papers after dismantled, incorporating them into automated machines and re-binding them using the same material used for their original casings, in accordance with the latest international restoration standards.
Dr. Zeidan added that the Director of the University of Oslo Library requested the BA to restore a collection of its rare books, thus boosting the success of the BA Restoration Lab over the past few years.
Abdurrahman Al-Ajmi valued the role played by BA to restore its collection of rare books, and referred to the BA’s endeavors in serving the Arab and Islamic culture.
