As this year’s Alexandria International Book Fair guest of honor, Italy will be contributing to the event with several cultural activities through the Italian Cultural Institute. Said activities will mostly revolve around Italian archaeology and antiquities in Egypt. The Book Fair visitors, especially youth and students, will be presented with volumes on the same topic, other literary publications, and several Arabic translations of Italian books. The 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome will also be celebrated as part of the Italian activities included in the Fair’s program.

The inauguration of the Alexandria International Book Fair on 23 March is going to commence at 12:00 noon with a speech by Dr. Giuseppina Capriotti, Head of the Centro Archeologico Italiano (Italian Archaeological Center) and a representative of the Italian Cultural Institute. The opening of the Italian book and illustrations exhibition will then ensue, and it will include a total of 72 artworks by 18 Italian artists.

This year’s Book Fair is organized in cooperation with Bologna Children's Book Fair, the most prominent event in the field of children’s books around the world. The aforementioned illustrations will be displayed throughout the duration of the Book Fair in the East Exhibition Hall. A vast collection of relevant books, a series of Arabic translations of Italian literary works, and several recent Italian publications for children will also be displayed.
