China Donates a Collection of Books to the BA as Part of the "Splendor of China 2023" Program

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized this morning a ceremony that witnessed Guangdong Publishing Group donating to the BA a collection of Chinese books as part of the "Splendor of China 2023" program and the “Guangdong Cultures outside China” exhibition.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA; Mr. Chen Jianwen, Standing Committee Member of CPC Guangdong Committee; and Mr. Yang Ei, Consul General of China in Alexandria, together with members of the Guangdong Cultural Exchange Delegation and the province’s Publishing Group.

In his speech, Dr. Ahmed Zayed said that the Library is a beacon of thought, culture, arts and sciences, and is Egypt's window on the world and the world's window on Egypt. He stated that the Library receives great attention from major cultural and scientific bodies and institutions, and is considered a repository of books, periodicals and references, both in digital and printed formats.

He also stressed that the BA is always keen on consolidating its cultural and scientific relations with different bodies and institutions around the world, and particularly with China. He mentioned that the Library, through its activities, underlines intercultural dialogue, pluralism, respect for others and coexistence of different peoples, under the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Chairman of its Board of Trustees.

For his part, Mr. Jiang Mingtao, Deputy General Manager of Southern Publishing Media Company, expressed his delight at this event, which comes within the framework of the “Splendor of China 2023” program and the “Guangdong Cultures outside China” exhibition.

He mentioned that the various events between the two countries, such as the Chinese-Egyptian Cultural Year, have helped consolidate cultural exchange and cooperation between the two countries. He added that this event comes as part of the efforts of the Guangdong Publishing Group, which this year were carried out outside China, to strengthen cooperation in the field of publishing between the province and a number of international cultures.
