Czech Republic Deputy Minister of Culture: the BA is one of the World’s most Important Cultural Centers

Alexandria—In a press conference held on Thursday, 30 April 2009, H.E. Mr. Jaromir Talir, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic stated that the BA is one of the world’s most important cultural centers. Attended by General Adel Labib, Governor of Alexandria, and Ambassador Aly Maher, Special Advisor for the BA Director, the press conference was held on the occasion of donating eighty books, a selection of Czech literature, to the BA.

In his speech, Mr. Talir stated that he is delighted to visit the BA, whose revival reflected significant international collaboration. He added that the Czech Republic has also offered the BA a collection of books ten years ago, a sign of the deeply-rooted relations between the two countries.

Mr. Talir and the Czech delegation were received by Ambassador Maher, and went on a tour of the Library’s projects, services and facilities, mainly: the Manuscript Museum, Antiquities Museum, Sadat Museum, Internet Archive, Culturama Show, Planetarium Science Center, VISTA, and the “Impressions of Alexandria” Exhibition (the Awad Collection). Mr. Talir praised the Library, adding that the BA’s achievements in such a short period of time is a great success to its staff and Director.

The Czech Republic is the current President of the EU. The motto of the Czech Presidency, “Europe without Barriers”, reflects the will to remove all boarders between the EU member states as well as initiating dialogue with other countries.
