Financing Infrastructure Projects in the Euromed Region Conference at the BA

Alexandria—On Thursday, 30 April 2009, the BA hosted the “Financing Infrastructure Projects in the Euromed Region” Conference. It was attended by Rachid Mohamed Rachid, the Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry, and Henri Guaino, Special Advisor to the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, in addition to chairpersons of international financial organizations and sovereign funds in the Euromed region and the Arab World.

Engineer Rachid stated that the Conference is a great step in the Euromed cooperation that would guarantee stability and development to the whole region. He added that the Conference will not mobilize financial recourses to fund infrastructure projects, but will also put innovative frameworks to push Euromed collaboration eventually leading to a better standard of living to the peoples of the region.

The Conference is the first practical outcome of the Union for the Mediterranean Initiative, announced in July 2008, and co-chaired by the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, representing the southern Mediterranean countries, and President Sarkozy from the northern countries.
