Tawfiq Adakkn’s Son Donates His Personal Belongings to the BA

As part of the project launched by the BA to document the pioneers of the seventh art and to preserve Egypt’s modern and contemporary history, the BA Special Projects Department has received a significant and grand donation from the son of Tawfiq Adakkn. The donation includes a collection of his personal belongings, which document his personal life and his artistic career.
Tawfiq Amin Mohamed Adakkn is a late Egyptian actor, who was born on 3 May 1924 in Monufia and later on moved with his father to Menya. He obtained his BA degree from the Higher Institute for Dramatic Arts in 1950. Tawfiq Adakkn was famous for his brilliant acting skills and the versatility of his roles; he excelled in both villainous and comedic roles in numerous films and plays. He thus became an icon of Egyptian cinema during the 1940s and 1950s. He passed away on 26 November 1988 at the age of 65.
The late actor’s belongings were documented after being donated by his family—represented by his son, Alsayed Radi Tawfiq Adakkn—to the BA. The donation included an important collection of photographs with many artists, as well as photographs of him in character during several performances. The photos also document honoring ceremonies and personal moments with his family. The collection of belongings also includes several of his awards, such as the award he was given by late President Sadat during the Festival of the Arts. Moreover, the donations comprise his own memoirs detailing his professional acting history in theater as well as his memories with his fellow actors. His belongings also encompass a large file of newspaper and magazine features written about him. These clippings were collected by the actor himself.
The late Tawfiq Adakkn will be commemorated as part of a celebration that will be held at Sinnari House to honor the pioneers of the seventh art.
